The University of Delaware qualified for the Football Championship Subdivision (aka Division 1-AA) playoffs this year. The Blue Hens were one of five teams from the Colonial Athletic Conference to qualify, joining Massachusetts, Richmond, New Hampshire, and James Madison. Keep in mind, there are a total of 16 teams in the playoffs. That speaks volumes on the quality of the CAC in 2007.
Delaware will host MEAC champion Delaware State in the first round. Even though the two schools are not even an hour apart, they have never played each other before, so it is indeed an historic matchup. Hopefully the beginning of what could be considered a rivalry…and fuel for those who want to see the upstate rivalry take root.
If you have the opportunity to do so, I would urge you to support your Blue Hens and/or your Hornets in their playoff endeavors. They play at Newark on Friday at 1:30. If you can’t go, wear your colors to support your team.
